Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour Says ‘Yes’ to Equality

In August 2017, the Australian Government announced they would be holding a postal survey to ask Australian voters if they felt the law should be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry. To support the ‘yes’ vote, and the viewpoints of many of their guests and staff, Novotel cleverly changed their sign to highlight the ‘vote’ in rainbow colours, and added a ‘yes’ sign. The decision to do this and the execution happened in a remarkably short time frame. The hotel leveraged Local Measure to keep social followers updated through the transformation.

 

 

 

 

 

Results

In the week following the sign change, the hotel had a total follower reach on social media of +64,000 compared to +14,000 the week prior. During the first weekend after the change, the hotel counted 27 posts on social media specifically tagging them about the new look.
